Coffeyville - Jaben Lamont Carter, 36, of Coffeyville passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 at his home. He was born September 25, 1972 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Gilbert Everett and Percye Ree (Johnson) Carter.

Jaben attended elementary school in Coffeyville and Topeka, KS, and graduated from General H. H. Arnold High School in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he lettered in and participated in football.

After high school he attended Coffeyville Community College. He worked for several years at Morrow Foundry in Coffeyville. Jaben was a very loving person and spent most of this time being devoted to his family. Some of his hobbies were watching football, basketball, baseball and a genuine love for playing video games.

He is survived by is fiance of twelve years, Angela and their two children, Rachel Douglas and Isiah Carter of the home, eight brothers, Orville E. Shelby (Laverne), Harold E. Shelby (Valencia), Gary L. Shelby (Diane), Arnold L. Shelby Sr, Donald E. Chambers (Marilyn), all of Kansas City, MO, Royce C. Shelby, Manass, VA, Almer G. Carter, Everett B. Carter (Patricia) of Topkea, KS and one sister Donetta D. Thomas, Milwaukee, WI and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the First Church of God in Christ with Pastor Gary Shelby and Pastor Arnold Shelby officiating. Cremation will take place. Inurnment will be on Monday in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.

Friends may sign the register book on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville Memorials are suggested to the Family of Jaben Carter; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
